Our purpose & approach

Accountability starts
with accuracy.

Utah Unmasked is being built to make political funding and public records easier to find, understand and question.

Our purpose

We examine money, organizational relationships and political activity affecting Utah. Our work begins with public records, not a presumption of misconduct. Existing Utah Network Watch research is a starting library; material must be checked before republication.

Evidence and attribution

Support consequential factual claims with original documents wherever possible. Link filings, identify the relevant reporting period and distinguish documented facts, analysis and unresolved leads. Keep legal entities and similarly named organizations separate.

Fairness and response

Apply the same evidentiary standards regardless of party or viewpoint. Seek a meaningful response before publishing substantive criticism or allegations, accurately represent that response, and avoid implying wrongdoing merely from an affiliation or lawful transaction.

Money and methodology

Identify cash, in-kind support, loans, grants and service payments separately. Reconcile duplicate and replacement transactions, retain source identifiers, and label partial coverage. Do not imply that an upstream grant was earmarked for downstream political spending without evidence.

Corrections

Material factual corrections should be clearly dated and explained on the affected story. Preserve a record of substantive changes. Readers may flag a specific statement and provide supporting documentation through our contact channel once enabled.

Editorial transparency

Before launch, this page must identify the publisher, editorial contact, ownership and relevant funding or conflicts of interest. Those details have not yet been supplied or verified. No claim of editorial independence or nonprofit status is made in this preview.

Privacy and tips

Collect only the information needed to assess a submission. Publish the actual form handling and retention practices before enabling collection. Do not promise anonymity or confidentiality that the available systems cannot support.
